Leiden University Medical Center
Ingrid Meulenbelt is a professor of Molecular Biology of Osteoarthritis at the department of Biomedical Data Science, Leiden University Medical Center, Netherlands.
The group of Meulenbelt has a strong research focus on unraveling the biological complexity of osteoarthritis etio-pathophysiology by exploiting human 3D in vitro organoid and ex vivo models of joint tissues. Herein relevant physiological triggers such as injurious mechanical loading, inflammation, or hypertrophy are used to induce osteoarthritis. More recently, the group entered the field of regenerative medicine now including the development of pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) derived OA cell therapy as well as generation of cartilage implants.
